Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center (CMGC) Parking Deck Solar Installation The City of Charlotte used Renewable Energy Grant funding for the installation of the solar power structure mounted on top floor of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center Parking deck. The energy generated by the alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) will help power the deck's electrical system, which includes lighting, security systems, gates, and the soon to be installed electric vehicle charging stations. Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) Solar Project As part of CLT's efforts to become more energy independent and sustainable, a rooftop Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system was installed on the roof of the CLT Center, which houses the bulk of the Aviation Department operations and employees. Photovoltaics are a solar power technology that convert light from the sun into electricity that can be used to power a building. This particular system generates enough electricity to power 30-40% of the CLT Center. LEARN MORE>
