Air Quality Projects

 

A couple of projects combined energy efficiency and air quality improvements. These dual benefit initiatives are a win-win for the Charlotte area.

Bicycle Master Plan Project #1 - Wendover/Beal Intersection
The City of Charlotte has been developing a master plan for a network of safe and easy-to-use bicycle paths to offer residents an attractive, energy-conscious alternative for their commutes. One of the many challenges around implementing the plan centers around areas where bicycles and cars share the roadways. The first project to be implemented in this plan is just such an area-the intersection at Wendover and Beal. This intersection will be transformed to allow bicycles to safely navigate through traffic. READ MORE>

Electronic Wayfinding and Parking Signage
Another inovative project concentrates on helping cars coming into the Uptown area, for work or events, find open parking spaces faster. The system will feature a network of interactive wayfinding signage that can be updated instantly be parking garage staff monitoring and posting where open spaces are located. Drivers can easily see and go directly to these spaces which will significantly reduce the gas used to search for a space to park. It is estimated that the system will saveeach car, on average, about a half mile of travel before parking. READ MORE>
